Can I Diagnose Cancer With My Haematology Analyser?

20 Mar 2025
IDEXX Theatre
Advanced Diagnostics

Most small animal veterinary practices are currently using in-house diagnostics. Flow cytometry-based haematology analyser evaluate between 10,000 and 15,000 leukocytes per run, those providing a wealth of information. What is the catch? One needs to be familiar with the cytograms or dot plots.

It is relatively easy to identify large neoplastic cells (e.g.; large cell lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute leukemias) in the cytograms; most of those cells will be counted as “monocytes”, but the shape of the cloud tells the story. In dogs and cats with neoplasia of small lymphocytes, the lymphocyte/monocyte cloud is quite distinct.

This seminar will use real life cases to illustrate all these features.
