Even with the most sophisticated haematology analysers, there are instances where evaluating the blood smear provides us with helpful and actionable clinical information that will have an impact on patient care and would otherwise not be detected. In this session we will go through some common and relevant changes that can only be evaluated with blood smear exam.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Understand common limitations of the automated haematology counts to critically assess results.
- Recognise common and significant changes in the blood smear morphology that are not identified by the haematology analysers.
- Integrate information from the blood smear exam with the information from the haematology analyser in the clinical case context.
